We’ve been working on a DVD authoring and re-branding project which also involved recording new voiceover for some videos from National Geographic, as well as adding new music tracks to a few. The footage was really beautiful and enhanced by the new voiceover. Have a listen! (..this particular VO was described by one enchanted listener as ‘Attenborough-esque’…)

Well, my time here at Tom Dick and Debbie has drawn to a close. I’ve had such a fantastic time working here at our Oxford recording studios. I never knew that voice recording could take so many different forms, and be as much fun to be involved with as it has been.

From voiceover production, to radio commercials, to ELT songs and audio books, the audio projects here in Oxford have all been a joy to work on. In the few months I’ve been here we have welcomed through the doors a whole host of talented composers, singers, voiceover artists and actors. Having so many experienced professionals to work with makes casting and booking a nice easy job!

I’ll be sure to keep in touch with everyone here at TDD, and wish them the best of luck in all future projects…

The audio production services here at our Oxford recording studios have recently hosted the first of a number of sessions lined up to record a variety of ELT (English Language Teaching) audio books for a large UK Publishing house. The spoken word for each book is provided by a different professional actor, so we have been busy busy busy carefully casting the right voice for each story. Today we have welcomed Stefan Booth into the studio – a successful actor who is giving some authenticity to the American characters with his flawless US accent.

The post-production facilities will be worked hard over the next few weeks, as we edit 4 more audio books in this project over the next few weeks. However, with such a dedicated team, there won’t be any problems seeing this exciting audio project come into fruition!

Last Tuesday in our Oxford recording studios we kicked off the vocal recording sessions for one of our latest audio projects – producing ELT (English Language Teaching) songs for Spanish children aged 5-6 . The project is the next age level up of a pre-existing project, and so we were delighted to be able to welcome back many of the same singers for the voice recording. Talented singer-songwriter Kirsten Joy-Gill laid down the lead vocals on Tuesday; Wednesday came the turn of the John Hasler, Nigel Pilkington, Claire Morgan and Rachael Miller to provide the character voices and Jo Servi laying down the lead male vocals; and Friday saw Hannah Deebank, Amy Gardner and Nicola Holmes singing their hearts out as the childrens chorus… As usual, the sessions were great fun and our audio production services were treated to a week of great talent!

Today it is the turn of the spoken word… Charles Armstrong is currently in our studio recording a series of audio books and accompanying comprehensions, designed to teach children English. He is such an experienced talented actor, especially in the field of voice recording, that we have no doubt that the session will be a great success.

The last 3 weeks at our Oxford recording studios have been lots of fun. Our audio production services have opened up their doors to many extremely talented individuals! They’ve all helped us in a very diverse range of audio projects in Oxford this past month, ranging from TV voiceover production to recording sessions for ELT songs and ELT audio (English language teaching songs and audio), and from audio book recordings to live band sessions…

One of the highlights of July came with the band session day, set up to record live backing for a set of ELT songs aimed at 9-10 year old Spanish children. We were delighted to welcome back the extremely talented drummer Frosty, guitarist Denny Ilett and bassist Raph Mizraki, as well as our very own musician cum songwriter Richard Lewis. We all had a lot of laughs and the band produced some absolutely fantastic music. Later that week, singers Natalie Taylor and Bobby Callaghan kicked off the vocal recording for this batch of ELT audio, swiftly followed by Jem Cooke, Richard Oliver and J0 Servi early the next week. As to be expected these sessions were a great success too.

July also witnessed a recording session for the first in a list of audio book titles that Tom Dick and Debbie are producing for a well-renowned publishing house. We love working with Charles Armstrong, and so were delighted that he was providing the voice for this book, and the voice recording went without a hiccup!

Last week, our recording studios played host to renowned MP Nadine Dorries, who came in to offer up her spoken word for a voiceover that will appear on an episode of BBC’s The One Show about the over-sexualisation of modern society.

As you can tell we have been kept on our toes throughout July, and had a lot of laughs along the way… bring on August!

Hi my name is Callum MacDonald and I’m a student of Henry box school in Witney. I am doing work experience here at Tom Dick and Debbie’s Oxford Recording Studios alongside Isobel East, a media production graduate, who has started a 6-mouth internship with Tom Dick and Debbie to learn a thing or two about audio production. Im so excited to be doing work experience at Tom Dick and Debbie’s Oxford recording studios because it has shown me that there is a lot more to recording studios and music production than what meets the eye.

Tom Dick and Debbie has shown me what they specialise in such as ELT audio/ELT songs which gave me an insight into how much work goes into one song. Also i have seen how audio books are made at Tom Dick and Debbie’s oxford recording studios. On top of that they do a lot of other projects such as radio commercials, audio production services, voice recording and voice over production and theres many more going on at this amazing company. Today i was able to record myself singing (did not go well!!!!) but so far i have throughly enjoyed my time at Tom Dick and Debbie’s recording studios and i cant wait to see what they have lined up for me for the next two weeks.

Life here in the audio department at Tom Dick and Debbie has been somewhat hectic to say the least –not that we are complaining! This week our Oxford recording studios have been bustling with activity, with voice recording going on for the production of 2 different sets of audio books.

On Wednesday, the very talented Charles Armstrong kicked off the recordings, providing character voices for a set of 16 short fiction audio books, used as an aid for ELT (English Language Teaching). The recording went swimmingly and we loved working with Charles.

Thursday and Friday have witnessed the fruition of another audio project here in Oxford. We began the voice recording for a range of short fiction books aimed at 5 – 7 year olds yesterday, with John Hasler providing the male characters. As always, he amazed us with his vocal diversity, playing everything from small boys to grandfathers, from pirates to monkeys and from farmers to posh professors! Today kicks off the second round of voice recordings in Oxford. We have welcomed Harriet Kershaw, another extremely talented and diverse voice, to show our audio production services a good time (!) and provide the female character voices for the audio books.

Life has certainly not been quiet on the video production front either… In the past few weeks, our video team has been working flat out on both corporate video production and marketing video production. We were hired to produce a video to be shown at a large company’s award ceremony, showing short snappy films and interviews with all the staff that had been nominated for each award. It was a really fun project to be involved in, and was a big success all round. In fact I think we deserved an award ourselves!

Pictures to follow…

This week at Tom Dick and Debbie saw the vocal recording sessions for our latest batch of ELT (English Language Teaching) songs, being produced for a large publishing house. This ELT audio project is designed to help teach English to 3-year-old children in Spain, and so each song has simple lyrics set around fun, catchy, poppy melodies.

On Monday, our Oxford-based recording studio welcomed singer Kirsten Joy-Gill into Studio 1, to start laying down the vocals. Budding songwriter Kirsten, whose glittering career has already led her to perform for royalty and parliament, did a fantastic job in the voice recording sessions, leaving behind a very happy team of people!

Next up to make their mark on the ELT audio project was Paul Oliver, a male vocalist from London. Again, our humble Oxford recording studio was greatly impressed with the talent and efficiency showed in his recording session.

Last, but certainly not least, came Sebastian, Annie and Amy, three children providing the children’s chorus for the ELT songs, along with their chaperone Josh Mullet. They did a great job and worked really hard, running us ragged here in the recording studio!

A massive thankyou to everyone that took part, and we can’t wait to see the finished product!!!
